RSS Feed

What is RSS content and how do I add it to my web site?

What is RSS?
RSS, sometimes known as Really Simple Syndication, is a popular means of sharing content (such as news headlines) without requiring readers to constantly visit a Web site to see what's new. RSS feeds contain headlines and hyperlinks to longer articles or Web pages.

Websites use RSS feeds to distribute frequently changing content, such as blogs and news. You can track up-to-the-minute information right from your My Yahoo! page by adding RSS feeds to your page. The method for doing this varies depending on the site offering the service.

There are two ways to find out if a site has an RSS feed:

You see the acronym RSS or the symbol someplace on the site's pages

You find the RSS feed by searching for it in the My Yahoo! content gallery.

To add an RSS feed from a web site's page:

Some websites help you out by asking where you want to add the RSS feed and giving My Yahoo! as one of your options. All you have to do on these sites is click a few buttons and the feed is added to your main My Yahoo! tab.

  • Navigate to the website whose RSS feed you want.
  • Look for the acronym RSS or the symbol .

If you find the acronym or symbol, click on it, then follow the instructions provided by that web site. If you need help, contact support for that website.

Some sites have a whole page of RSS feeds, and make it easy to add them to My Yahoo! using the button on their website. To see an example of this from the USA Today website, click here.
